Missed me?
I don't know whether I am coming or going this week. It's been an amazing week but busy busy busy.
I have been trying to ensure I continue a new practice of mine, started just last week, of giving myself two hours a day for ME. It's proving tricky to do for someone like me who wants to grab every opportunity to raise funds for our Unit and awareness generally of TCT! However, I have managed it.....just. I have re-started my training with CT the PT (Caroline Toshack the Personal Trainer) and Sheryl. Our training got off to a shaky start as Sheryl had decided to cycle to me to train(I know, show off or what?) but some woman in a people carrier knocked her down and drove on. This was at Newmills Road at Balerno last wednesday 26 November at around 830am in case anyone saw it! Drove on. Sheryl's bike hit the car as the car turned left in front of her. Threw Sheryl to the ground and drove on. I am incredulous. Sheryl was extremely visible in a fluorescent yellow jacket. I am so cross for her. She was badly bruised and very shaken.
She is a trooper though and after a wee cup of tea continued our training session. Puts me to shame every time but I will work harder this year to get close to as fit as she is. I would love to do another challenge with her - Sheryl is a great fun, loyal, and supportive companion.
I have also had a fun night out at Harvey Nix -they had a shopping evening with lucky dip discount and on my (very little, honestly Ian) purchase I got 30%! I mean the fantastic fabby dabby face cream will last a year at least and it will remove all wrinkles and make me look ten years younger.........won't it?
Last night Ruthie and I hit a cashmere designer sale - Cameron Taylor - I had never heard of her before but it was a notice on the PA exchange website so we tootled along. WOW - she is an amazing designer - we loved the jackets and jumpers and scarves and dresses. Utterly gorgeous. A lovely way to spend an hour. No, I am not telling you if I bought anything.
Apart from that though, the week has been full on TCT - I have been at one christmas market and about to go to another right now and another one is this afternoon - I have had £1500 from a firm of lawyers in Edinburgh (instead of sending out christmas cards - how fantastic), been to a music gig organised by one of our younger supporters (she did a really good job but I hated the music and Janette and I must had looked like two grumpy grannies sitting in the corner texting each other because we couldn't hear each other speak!!! I will have to check out 'young music' before the next one. Suzanne did such a good job and enjoyed it too and I am sure, and hope, will do it again), delivered dozens pkts christmas cards.
Three events worth a special mention
the Violet Trust launched this week - I was asked along because I am a sort of mentor the team. Five amazing women who work for West Lothian Council - set up the Violet Trust to help people living with cancer. They have already raised £5000 and have huge ambitions. These women will go far. Watch this space! More importantly, read this website! Click here to go to the Violet Trust website.
Katy Lamb, one of the mums I fundraise with, is the organiser of our literary dinner next week. Alexander McCall Smith is our after dinner speaker and Alexander Meddowes our amazing auctioneer. Katy has done a sterling job on organising this event and this week also secured for us £20,000 from a Trust. The cheque arrived yesterday and is already tucked up in our bank account (the one for the WGH)
and last and most special to me this week I met some wonderful people at Penicuik High School - the incredibly supportive Head Teacher, Deputy Heads and students who are now going to work in partnership with me on the 2009 teenagers challenge - indeed after our meeting Louise, the student representative I met, texted me to say how much they were looking forward to helping me SMASH my target.
I LOVE PENICUIK HIGH SCHOOL!
Seriously, though, I am so excited about this new project - Penicuik are the first but I hope not the only school to get involved.
as well as raising money for a really good cause and knowing its for a local facility for local young people I want to show that there is a lot of FUN to be had in FUNdraising!
BRING IT ON!
Personally, I'd be partial to the £1500 over the Christmas cards as well...but that's just me!
